Campus Community Impacts

Disabled students impacted by campus construction projects, repairs, etc. should contact the DAC to discuss disability-related accommodations: DRSFrontDesk@wwu.edu or 360-650-3083

The Fraser Hall elevator will be out of service for a critical repair until further notice. Students with disabilities in the building should use the Humanities building ADA restroom.

  • Please address any questions or concerns about noise, temperature, or schedule to Billy Walker, Facilities Development and Operations, at walkerw5@wwu.edu or at (360) 650-7508.

Starting Wednesday, November 8th from 8:00 am through Friday, December 1st at 5:00 pm, there will be extensive repair work being performed for a broken sewer and drain repair.

The repair work will be performed in the following areas: The Fairhaven Quad, above the stairs, directly in front of Fairhaven Stacks 01, 02, and 03, the quad side directly in front of Stacks 04, as well as on the south facing side of Stack 05.

This work will include brick removal, excavation of the sewer main and lateral drains, removal of the contaminated soil, repair of the sewer piping, lining of the sewer piping, backfilling of the excavated holes, and restoration of the grounds.

Building occupants can expect construction noise during normal business hours, and potential sewer gas fumes throughout the duration of this project.

Please address any questions or concerns to Jason.Sprinkle@wwu.edu or at 360-318-4081.

The new building will be located east of the Communications Facility on the site of the 17G parking lot.

Parking Changes

  • Parking lot 17G will be closed throughout construction.

  • ADA parking is available in lots 19G and 9G.

  • 131 new parking spaces have been added to parking lot 12G on South College Drive.

Route Changes

  • Intermittent lane closures on East College Way will be directed by flaggers and may cause delays and congestion.

  • From mid to late April of 2023, the section of the pedestrian path south of the Academic Instructional Center between the surface and tunnel crossings from Fairhaven will be closed for utility trenching.

  • The sidewalk on East College Drive and the path from the tunnel crossing will remain open during the path closure.

  • Detour signs will show alternate routes.

  • Bicyclists and pedestrians can avoid delays by using paths through campus. Please walk bikes through walk zone areas of high pedestrian traffic.

Other Impacts

Hours of construction will generally be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., depending on weather and conditions, but some exceptions may occur if needed with advance permission from the university. Facilities Development and Operations customer service will notify the university community ahead of any variation in schedule. Noise and fume levels will be monitored to mitigate impacts on surrounding building occupants.
